Atlas New York is a 48-story, 400,000 sf mixed-use residential tower consisting of 374-units, 42,000 sf of commercial space, and 14,000 sf of retail. A 2-floor parking garage at cellar and sub-cellar levels, and two distinct entrance lobbies complete the project. The site is a combination of five separate land parcels and air rights. During construction, parcels four and five were demolished by hand, brick-by-brick, due to a highly congested midtown location. 60% of excavation was done in bedrock. Soldier beams and logging were required to brace and support the foundation between the subway tunnel and the site as a requirement for any project within 100’ of the subway tracks. This is reinforced concrete flat plate construction with 90% of the curtain wall constructed of glass, and the balance in a two color brick palette, with limestone at the base. The building has three set backs and each corner features full height corner window walls.
