The Waltemade Health Care Center is a 160-bed skilled nursing facility located on the campus of The Wartburg, a historic 20-acre wooded compound in Mount Vernon, NY. Situated on a slope in the center of campus, this 94,500 sf Tudor-style structure utilizes concrete plank, masonry-bearing walls, steel stud roof framing and aluminum windows. The facility houses 40 patient rehabilitation units, therapeutic and rehab rooms, a chapel, and central landscaped courtyard which included the construction of a man-made pond. The third floor contains two 40 resident-in-care units with dining rooms overlooking the greens of The Wartburg and circular lounges facing the courtyard. The project also houses an Alzheimer unit, continuous walking paths and activity spaces. Essential to the job was ensuring no disruption to a fully operational senior housing complex existing on the campus.
